Cody Loves To See Hannah Happy

It was dark in the bin, at the bottom of the bin,
below dogs, dragons, bears and sweet bunnies.
But being at the bottom isn’t so bad
because Cody loves to see Hannah happy.

There was a time, you see, when Cody was on top.
He was held tight and loved by sweet Hannah.
She would spin and dance and laugh with delight
and Cody loves to see Hannah happy.

There was nothing that happened while Hannah was around
where Cody was not right beside her.
They would play all day with Cody in her clutches
and then she’d snuggle him tightly all night.

In truth, all this playtime was rough on poor Cody.
He was fragile, not made for adventures.
But Cody didn’t mind that his stuffing was flattened
nor his fur being matted and dirty.

Because Cody knows down deep in his heart
that he’s okay with some bumps and bruises.
He accepts his lot as a good, faithful toy
because Cody loves to see Hannah happy.

But even the best things don’t last forever
no matter how tightly we hold them.
We can twirl, squeeze and clutch them all night
but things change all the same by the morning.

One day, momma tossed Cody in the toy bin
as Hannah played happily with new puppies.
It was strange for Cody being left in the room,
but, also a nice break from more bruises.

Today I’ll rest thought sweet tired Cody
and enjoy my day off in this bin.
The morning will come quick, with Hannah’s tight grip,
and we’ll be off on adventures again.

But when the light creeped in to his place in the bin
and the next day had obviously started.
There was light all around, but no Hannah to be found
no adventures, no scrapes and no bruises.

Cody sat waiting, because he’s just a toy,
he can’t move without help from his Hannah.
All day through the house he could hear but not see
the sweet sound of Hannah being happy.

Time passed by, as days turned to weeks
and the weeks and then months kept on mounting.
Cody in the bin was seemingly forgotten
while Hannah and the house kept on moving.

At first, he was sad being left all alone
and longed deeply for some scrapes and bruises.
The bin was nice, cozy and warm, to be sure
but Cody loves to see Hannah happy.

He would listen all he could to the sounds he could gather
and imagine the adventures unfolding.
Hannah dancing with toys while squealing with delight
as she grew and discovered new adventures.

Something happened to Cody as he stayed in the bin
And new toys tossed in sought to bury him.
But, no matter how deeply he sank to the bottom
He found out he loved to see Hannah happy.

“I know,” he would say, as he lay there all day,
“That I played with sweet Hannah for a season.
And now my time’s passed, and my purpose fulfilled,
and I’m content for this important reason:

I’m a toy, afterall, and my job is quite simple
to serve Hannah on her great adventures.
And I did that for a time, and short it may have been,
I still got to see Hannah happy.”
